Software Development

  • Even I’m surprised to know how many people use code that I wrote and tested on a train ride to my work.
  • What will be the preferred web development platform in 2012?
  • The default should always be opt-in.

  • Technology is democratizing idiocy.

Team Leadership

  • If knowledge is power, than data is the source of power.
  • If you think your business model is finished, you are finished.
  • Doers gonna do.
  • Most managers have 20% time, the time spent not looking ignorant about some aspect of technology.
  • Better than picking your battle, pick the time of the battle, better still pick the your combatant, even better still put it on pay-per-view
  • In space no one can hear you scream, in the interwebs no one will let you forget it.
  • I had a dream that I had woken up at 10am and that I was late for work, I panicked and woke up from the dream and it was only 5am.
  • I absolutely hate absolutism of any kind!
  • If you want to have your cake and eat it too it is best to bake it yourself.
  • So-so is the enemy of awesome.

Product Placement

  • I wish there was a entrepreneur version of television show Deal or No Deal.
  • Green Burrito is the worst name for a fast food fastaurant.
  • It’s clear that @Google has Facebook envy, especially with their new privacy policy.
  • I’ll never use a social networking site if it requires a government ID for me to log in.
  • How can Google claim that G+ supports pseudonyms if they may review and require government ID for you to prove that is your real pseudonym.
  • People forget that Google’s “Don’t be evil” motto is an abbreviated form of “Don’t get caught being evil.”
  • Would William Shakespeare publish his works on the Apple iBooks platform?

  • What is worse than bullshit or bullballs?
  • Why do bills arrive faster than cash?
  • How do you become the thought leader on thought leadership?
  • In what food group are gummy bears in?
  • Is it really made in the USA if it’s made of Italian leather from Spanish cows?

Randumb

  • Old hippies never die, they just cut their hair, take a shower, and become The Man.
  • If it was up to the movie/music industry, all Americans would have to pay a Copyright tax off 5% across the board.
  • Only one of the infinite parallel universes will end on 2012. Which universe are you in?
  • Many people on Hoarders are not true die hard hoarders, they are lazy and messy.
  • Complaining about the use of the #FirstWorldProblems hashtag is a #FirstWorldProblem.
  • I like cats but dislike cat people.
  • Just like haters gonna hate, cheaters gonna cheat.
  • The key of love is to know when to let go.

Software Development

  • Making good UI means making ugly choices.
  • There was a time when having a computer made you a nerd. Today, people being “good on Facebook” does not make you a nerd.
  • Love working with jQuery Mobile.

Thought Leadership

  • Everyone has a vision, the difference is the scope, lens, and filter around the vision.
  • Tomorrow is a fresh opportunity to be amazing and amazed.
  • You ask stupid questions, you get stupid answers.
  • I’m not on StackOverflow, so when people ask for my SO reputation I instead give them the the monthly referrals I get from SO.

Product Placement

  • Sweet. Amazon just sent me a $5 credit because of a “technical issue on the Amazon.com website” that I am not even aware I encountered.
  • Found my first handheld device… An HP iPaq RX3715 running Pocket PC 2003 Pro w/ Outlook 2002. It’s still in great condition!
  • David Pogue wrote his review of the Kindle Fire, sounds like he wrote it from his iPad.

Overheard

  • OH: Don’t they have Cliff Notes for the DMV driving manual?
  • OH: Your brain cells are sexy!
  • OH: Sometimes when you put things in the closet it doesn’t mean you have a clean house.
  • OH: don’t do it but it you gonna do it make sure you get paid for doing it.

Thanksgiving

  • I’m turkeyed-out. I had all major food groups and at least four different meat groups.
  • McDonalds should have a McTurkey with McStuffing.
  • Thanksgiving is the time to eat food you don’t like, I mean why do you only have it only for Thanksgiving?
  • The holidays forces families to come together because everyone else is with their families.
  • I dislike food holidays. Especially when everything is so good.
  • Instead of counting sheep, I’ll be counting turkeys tonight.
  • Gobble gobble gone.

Software Development

  • If rhythm is a dancer, then algorithm is a break dancer.
  • If you were a Java language reserve word what word would you be? I would be volatile!
  • I get personally insulted when I am prompted to prove my humanness with a captcha. It makes me wanna bust a cap-tcha on some webdeveloper!!!
  • Is there group think in the development community? Yes, but we build patterns around group think and call it Best Practices.

Team Leadership

  • Change your perspective and you can change the world.
  • If you don’t have an original idea you can remix existing ideas in original ways!
  • Go hard, go home, go big. Pick two.
  • If a web site’s end users are not paying customers, then the end users are the product that web site then sell to their advertisers.
  • Why do people compensate their inability to communicate with the belief that others just know what they mean, you know what I mean?
  • Hype is the food of lemmings.
  • The plan was to have no plan, the backup plan was to leave the backup plan at home.
  • Most people are natural born followers, it’s human nature.

  • In terms of hardware, mobile, and even operating systems Microsoft is anywhere between 3-5 years behind the leader.
  • Startups age really fast in Internet time, by my calculation Digg is already and Old Media Company.
  • Like what percent of Tumblr’s posts are reblogs and reposts?
  • I want JJ Abrams to do a movie about do a remake of The Muppets in an alternate time line like he did for Star Trek.
  • I want an iPhone that transforms into an iPad when I need a bigger screen.
  • Google is an advertising company with great search technology. Facebook is a virtual share cropping company with great social technology.
  • Who collects more personal data and knows more about a given user, Facebook or Google?
  • Apple should add a few filters to their iPhone camera app.

Software Development

  • If your code works not because of your programming intentions but because of bug side effects and your client doesn’t care, it is not done.
  • I need a software development bug repellent.
  • Design fail if you fix a log message and you break some functionality.
  • If a carpenter’s rule of thumb is to “measure twice, cut once” then a programmer’s rule of thumb should be “design twice, code once, refactor a few times, and optimize only if you have to.”
  • Saying you know programming is like saying you know how to read, a first grader knows how to read!!
  • Requirements gathering is not creative writing.
  • I love requirements: The initial instruction should completely initialize the initial value.

Team Leadership

  • The only two requirements for a manager is that he is breathing and that he can communicate with his team in their language.
  • What happens to you is not other people’s fault, it is your opportunity.
  • There is nothing worse than a perfectionist that doesn’t know what he wants.
  • The worst thing you can so when you make a mistake is lie about it.
  • Every once in a while you have to recalculate, reshuffle, and/or remix your priorities.
  • Embrace the edge.

  • In Google We Trust.
  • Google claims their motto is to ‘do no evil’, put I suggest they change it to ‘do no customer support.’
  • If you use Google search to find Google Mail customer support and still can’t find it, is that a fail in their customer support or search?
  • There should be Freedom of Information Act for corporations. I want to know everything that Google knows about me and how that info is used
  • Can’t believe the AT&T website is not iPhone/mobile friendly.
  • Apple should develop a dual screen iPhone, iPhone GS3 DS.
  • I imagine a time when Zynga will have in-game ads for Monsanto genetic modified seeds on FarmVille or Foster Farm turkeys for Cafe World.
  • Facebook saves everything you create/post/save/click/delete, it can reverse engineer what you where thinking.
  • Doing four square drive-by check-ins.
  • Does Craigslist have an iPhone app?
  • Do you have multiple twitter personality disorder?
