I’m not too big into all this social media networking virality stuff, but I been known to occasionally use The Twitter. Here are some snippets from conversations that I’ve had on The Twitter. If you like to say hi, reply the reply button at juixe and techknow.

V-Day Victory!!!

@techknow: I like the day after Valentine’s Day 50% more than V-Day, that is because I can get all the chocolate covered marshmallow for 50% off.
@ladyfox14: Hahaha, just make sure you don’t get a stomach ache. It sounds like Halloween all over again.
@techknow: LOL I did get a tummy ache eating all that chocolate… I overdosed on marshmallows.

In the this conversation, I think of the meaning of life and everything in terms of software development life cycle and software process best practices.

@juixe: as a developer, and user, no hot fix has ever made me happy. ;)

Here I must have had in mind some story about when programmers would get royalty on the code the write. If you get paid on the usability f an application, imagine getting dinged $10 per bug.

Bug Bounty

@techknow: Can you imagine only getting paid if there is no bugs in your code?
@mcory1: I’d be panhandling if that were the case.
@techknow: LOL I often think what I would do if I wasn’t doing what I do, and panhandling is an option.

I try not to get political on my timeline but it’s been hard to not tweet about what is happening in the world, fires in Russia, floods in Pakistan, earthquake all over the Western Hemisphere, financial collapse in the develop world, world recession, etc. And yet, what technology pundits focus on is what laptop brand world leaders are using!

Economic Fail Because We Focus on the Wrong Thing

@techknow: Greece might default on billions, people protesting in the streets and all you notice is the Mac. LOL. I wonder if he has an iPad?

Again, I try to not get political but when someone makes a comparison of Facebook to a country I had a little something to say, unfortunately it didn’t all fit into the 140 character limit on Twitter.

Software Development

If developers think that QA is going to find all their design problems, they are doing it wrong.
Code wants to be dynamic.
Unlike what it sounds like, Extreme Programming isn’t a spectator sport where you jump off a ramp with your favorite IDE.
The web needs an open standard API for user badges and achievements.

If your code works not because of your programming intentions but because of bug side effects and your client doesn’t care, it is not done.
I need a software development bug repellent.
Design fail if you fix a log message and you break some functionality.
If a carpenter’s rule of thumb is to “measure twice, cut once” then a programmer’s rule of thumb should be “design twice, code once, refactor a few times, and optimize only if you have to.”
Saying you know programming is like saying you know how to read, a first grader knows how to read!!
Requirements gathering is not creative writing.
I love requirements: The initial instruction should completely initialize the initial value.

Software Development

Are we that good that some features work because of an unintentional side effect of a bug?
I’ve heard of cloud computing, even ground computing, but I can’t wait until I can do intergalactic-interdimensional computing.
Maintenance is a real full time job and it should be planned, scheduled, and budgeted accordingly.

If bad artists copy and great artists steal then bad programmers copy and great programmers cut and paste.
You have to think outside our current requirements and think about solutions that fit the platform and which we can build product features.
Can programmer mood/happiness be deciphered based on rate of check-ins, changelist, source code diff size, amount of refactoring?
Software is alchemy. The magic of software is that it can turn complexity to simplicity.

Version control tools need a better way to diff source history than just diffing two versions of a file…
If all bug defects are set to high priority, how are you to know, which one are really really really important ones?
I have 20 bugs marked a high priority, but some are higher than others. In addition to the having a priority and severity on defects we need color code too, ‘high pink’ is lower than ‘high crimson.’
Just remember, a two line fix can cost you a two hundred thousand dollar deal! Any code change to a production system must be tested.
LOL, getting a NullPointerException in a method called initNullValues.
Give me open source or give me piracy!
Let your users help drive the development of your product, not the accountants.

Sometimes it seems that team meetings are anti-team building!
You can still compare apples to oranges, but it is harder to compare apples to some ill-perceived subjective metric.
